Exhibits (September 17-October 17, 2004)

Event Event Time Location
Hispanic Arts and Crafts Exhibit

Sponsored by: Spanish Club and Department of Languages

- Cooper Library
Exhibition: Latino Gothic by South American painter, Alejandro Garcia-Lemos

Alejandro confines his work to painting, employing acrylic and oil on canvas, wood, and cardboard. His primary interest is representing the human figure as object, and furthermore as a subject resulting from itself, and from its own past. His figures seem to caricaturize the ordinary situations and emotions of daily life and even seem to tell a story about their lives, ideas or futures. The social themes of the works are shaded by traces of symbolism, which take a descriptive, rather than critical viewpoint. His most recent abstract work is based on his Hispanic roots where he combines contemporary abstraction with pre-Hispanic imagery.

Sponsored by: Union Programs and Activities Council, Outreach Committee and Department of Languages and Hispanic Student Association

- Hendrix Student Center, 2nd floor Student Lounge
